Yellowstone Aquatics Swim School Levels

Ray Buddies

Water Comfort & Fun 

 Prerequisites: at least 2.5 years old  

Perfect for beginners just getting started. We focus on blowing bubbles, floating, and building confidence in and around the pool while learning kicks that will be used through our whole program.  


Requirements to move to Gliders: 

FR: Popcorn Kicks with Barbell 

Short Arms - 2.5 ya

Short Arms - 2.5 yards independently  

FR: Streamline Blastoff with 

Face In Water - 1 yard independently  

BK: BK Kicks with Barbell 

Short Arms - 2.5 yards independently 

Safety: Slide into Water from Side, 

:10 back float 

(can be with assistance), return to wall 

Safety: :05 Independent Back Float.

Gliders

Body Position & Basic Skills 

Swimmers learn to glide, kick, and move independently. Focus is on strong body position, breath control, and continuing to build a knowledge of all strokes.  


Requirements to Move to Stingers: 

FR: Swim/Float/Swim - 

5 yards Independently 

FR: 4 FR Arms-Roll to back 

for a breath - 5 yards Independently 

BK: Streaml

Body Position & Basic Skills

FR: Swim/Float/Swim - 

5 yards Independently 

FR: 4 FR Arms-Roll to back

BK: Streamline BK Kick - 

5 yards Independently 

BR: 3 Streamline BR Kicks Independently 

Fly: Dolphin Kicks with 

Barbell Short Arms - 2.5 yards 

Safety: Jump and Backfloat :10 

and return to wall independently

Stingers

 Stroke Development 

Here, swimmers begin refining freestyle and backstroke, while learning the basics of breaststroke and butterfly.  


Requirements to Move to Super Rays: 

FR: Freestyle with Rhythmic 

Side Breathing - 5 yards 

BK: Backstroke Swim - 5 yards 

BR: 3 Streamline BR Kicks 

and BR Pull to Breathe - 5 yards 

Fly: Body Dolphin Kicks with 

Breath every 4 Kicks - 5 yards  

Diving: Sitting Dive

Super Rays

Technique, Endurance & Stroke Mastery 

Swimmers polish all four competitive strokes with a focus on technique, stamina, and readiness for joining Billings Aquatic Club Future Stingrays Competitive Group. 

 

Requirements to Move to Future Stingrays (must be 5.5 years old): 

FR: Freestyle with Rhythmic 

Side Breathing - 10 yards 

BK: Backstroke S

Technique, Endurance & Stroke Mastery 

Swimmers polish all four competitive strokes with a focus on technique, stamina, and readiness for joining Billings Aquatic Club Future Stingrays Competitive Group. 

 

Requirements to Move to Future Stingrays (must be 5.5 years old): 

FR: Freestyle with Rhythmic 

Side Breathing - 10 yards 

BK: Backstroke Swim - 10 yards 

BR: 3 Streamline BR Kicks and 

BR Pull to Breathe - 10 yards  

BR: BR Swim with 1 Pull, 

1 Kick - 10 yards  

Fly: Butterfly Swim - 5 yards 

Diving: Kneeling Dive
